YOU are just erroniously stuck on the idea that only hourly-wage jobs pay overtime

It's mostly true in the private sector. There are some non-management salaried jobs that pay overtime, but not that many. There's a narrow band of responsibility where jobs tend to be paid on a regular salaried basis but with insufficient managerial responsibility to allow the company to call the employee "exempt." It's also been a fertile basis for class action law suits. I was once itnerviewed by manaagement for such a law suit, when I was promoted out of the class that was claiming that it was being denied rightful overtime.

Things are different in the public sector, of course.
