I cannot say for sure if buses will be rolling on Jan 1st 2012. Judging from what I have just read, the fact that talks between TWU & Veolia have been productive so far, is a very good sign.Sounds like the negotiations might go down to the 11th hour. As a very longtime union member, I can say with a fair amount of certainty, that neither Veolia nor TWU wants to resort to a strike. That would be a disaster for all, and a very tough ocurrence to repair!! The end result would be severe animosity between labor and management for months/years. Veolia was indeed the one that said the talks were productive, but The union head didn't say anything to make it seem they didn't think they weren't productive.As the union head said the union and Veolia "are now in a race against the clock," which to me sounds like if they can't get a deal then buses won't run, that doesn't exactly say that talks aren't productive between the two. |

As a member 0f TWU Local 100 and the husband of a bus operator affected by this takeover I have to say that the local hasn't shown any backbone during this whole ordeal. Any strike would be devastating to the membership of Local 252-there is currently no contract between Veiola an the TWU-a strike would open the door for the company to hire their own people to run the buses, leaving the union members out of work. To be honest-neither Nassau County nor Local 252 has been clear on any issue with this takeover from the begining and it is a damn shame. |

I wasn't trying to say that the TWU 252 and Veolia had a contract or an agreement to one.I was just saying that by the union had said that they were in "a race against the clock" to, what sounded to me, get a deal together before the new year or like the previous poster said the fear that buses won't run (unless like you said Veolia brings in their own people or some of members that had their applications accepted by Veolia cross the picket line) I was also just stating that from the Union statements, they didn't seem to lean in either direction if talks were productive between the two were productive or not. TWU 252 was a big union on LI for a while, with members working at MSBA/LIB, Suffolk Bus Corp, Suffolk Transportation Service, and Louis A Fuoco Bus Company. |

What if a portion of an LIRR line shuts down due to track or signal maintenance? Would the MTA send shuttle buses from NYCT/MTA Bus to make up for the lack of LIRR service or would NICE do shuttle bustitution? |

Every one - they have hired over 100 painters and equipped them with gallons of paint, rollers, brushes, rags and other items. Then the decals will be placed on the buses when the paint dries. From what I've heard, the buses will re renumbered from 50,001 up. The workers, mainly hired by roving trucks sent to gather qualified workers in the Hempstead, Freeport, Elmont, Glen Cove, New Cassell and Wyandanch neighborhoods, are being being paid in cash without any tax or other payroll deductions, with the hourly amount just above the minimum wage. Even though these workers were not offered any benefits, they are working feverishly to get the job done. It is said that those who don't perform their work correctly will be reported to immigration authorities. Lunch or other breaks are limited to ten minutes; to use the bathroom facilities a worker must receive written approval from at least two supervisors, and limit his absence to no more than six minutes once a shift. All of this work is being performed inside the Nassau Coliseum (they had to cover the floor with tarps), the use of which building was specially arranged by Al D'Amato and County Executive Edward Mangano. It is felt that most if not all of the buses will be repainted and ready for service on January 2. |

They were originally going to number them starting at 75,001 but the decal manufacturer was very short of 7's, so they changed their requirement.Yes, the wheels will also be painted with that new black rubber paint that is advertised in the monthly antique auto/truck magazine, Hemmings Motor News. I have some of that paint myself and use it on my antique autos - it's great! You can either spray or roll it one, but it does have the distinct odor of rotten eggs, which lasts quite a few months. This will also give John R40SlantontheB something to complain about so he can start the New Year by complaining right away without a lengthy break. |

Not sure. And I don't like to give out erroneous, unverified information. From what I understand, they're all being stored down in the Jones Beach parking lots so the wind will dry the paint in order to have them ready to enter service at the proper time. I've been told but a very high authority that they're being driven down there, or towed two or three together, under the darkness of night so not too many people, especially rabid bus fans, can see them at this time, but the end bus does have flashing warning lights to warn traffic that they're in a formation, similar to a funeral formation. |
