Now lets talk MTA Bus former command operationIt makes me sick to see former command express buses going on and off route between 10am and 2 pm. Why are these express buses laid up in the city It is a 20-30 min ride between the end of the line at sheapshead bay and spring creak. A complete waste of money that could be uses to run extra runs on crowded lines or to pay down debt The BM3 and BM4 should go to Ulmer park The combined b2 and b100 could go to spring creak. Possible some b82 runs as well Some b3's could replace the b2 at flatbush freeing up space any ideas |

I still think it makes more sense to have the B2/100, whatever the combined line, be based from Flatbush since the current B100 passes right in front of the building. |

The only reason i suggest it is that the BM3 and BM4 express runs are 30 min from spring creak but 5 min from ulmer park which already has expertise in servicing the MCI's run on this route. In exchange move some runs of the b3 to flatbush and b2/100 to spring creak The distance from b2/100 to spring creak is far closer than bm4 bm3 to spring creak |

The windows were different (with the top opening piece like on subway cars or Orion VII's.Isn't the sound of them different from the city's Orions as well? I remember when those were still fairly new, and they seemed to have a sort of ambience the ones in the city and the WMATA rejects Green got, didn't. Don't they have the green tint in the frontmost light? I wonder if that will stay. |

NGs going to FLA will bump the TMCs to either LGA or BP. It would essentially be the end of the line for the 1990-1 TMCs at either depot (depending on which depot gets them). |

That said, I would agree that the 24xx-series is a logical spot for the Westchester buses when they arrive at MTA Bus, however, can someone recall the last time MTA has done anything with some semblance of logic?2) From what I'm seeing from Trevor's roster at Transitalk, JFK has the most diesel Orion Vs from the 1993-1997 era, so I wouldn't be shocked if they ended up getting some or all of the ex-Westchester buses. That said, however, even though the ex-Westchester buses are of similar vintage to the remaining 1993 Orion V diesels (the majority of which are at JFK, though at least 1 O-V diesel from that batch is at College Point), there certainly have to be some differences between the Westchester buses and the MTA buses. So, no matter which MTA Bus depot gets the Westchester fleet, there's going to need to be some training regardless. 3) I will also agree with Trevor's assessment of Westchester's operations. It seems as though a lot of agencies are too quick to scrap series of buses regardless of condition, but Westchester certainly made out pretty good by selling their used buses to another transit operator (even if it is the MTA) instead of simply sending them off to NIMCO. |

They ran the museum buses in service. I will also agree with Trevor's assessment... There's where you went wrong... |

Remember, JFK already has Orion Vs with front-door wheelchair lifts (the WMATA rejects), so I think there shouldn't be any additional training (except operating the rear doors if they aren't going to be modified, since they are driver-operated as is). |

I received a bid package in June, but did not bid.2) Westchester isn't a fancy agency. I'm sure those buses aren't much different than anything the MTA runs now. 3) I think that agencies that can afford it should replace their buses every 12 years automatically. There is federal money for this and it keeps operating costs down. |

Yeah, but who has to pay for those expensive new buses in The Country Of Waste. 12 years is a minimum - if a bus turns out to be crap, well you're stuck with it and got to keep it running for 12 years. In the old days, when buses were scrapped, they were battered old wrecks. Today, a transit agency will put in a rebuilt engine and transmission then sell the bus for scrap with 500 miles on it. While Bee Line is selling those 400 series Orion V's (probably for a pittance) they replaced the MCI express buses not with new MCI's but with Orion V's because they said they couldn't afford MCI's. |
