Yeah, but who has to pay for those expensive new buses in The Country Of Waste. 12 years is a minimum - if a bus turns out to be crap, well you're stuck with it and got to keep it running for 12 years. In the old days, when buses were scrapped, they were battered old wrecks. Today, a transit agency will put in a rebuilt engine and transmission then sell the bus for scrap with 500 miles on it. While Bee Line is selling those 400 series Orion V's (probably for a pittance) they replaced the MCI express buses not with new MCI's but with Orion V's because they said they couldn't afford MCI's. |
