One of the things I loved about the Mack buses was the air release sound of the air brakes. Macks and Twin Coach buses had an air brake sound all their own. I recall bus operators using it to coax somebody out of their way without actually using the horn. And I grew up in Philly with hundreds of gasoline Mack buses. I loved the gurgling sound of those Mack gasoline Thermodyne engines, especially at an idle. They almost sounded like they were gargling. And who could forget that air hiss and clunk when the torque converter dropped out of direct drive. What great memories !! |
