I was informed that there are serious problems and delays with N. J. Transit's new NABI bus order. While rather sketchy, I hear that NABI is having problems with the supplier of the frames. Many cracks and flaws were discovered. They had to be returned and remade correctly.

From what I gather, the supplier of the frames used as an excuse that they had to re-tool for the job, since they mostly make frames for low floor buses.

I also hear that the Caterpillar engines did not meet N.J. Transit's environmental specs. I hear they are being substituted with Cummins engines, which will substantially delay the order. The latest I'm being told is that the new NABI's won't start to arrive until "sometime" in 2009.
