Just above the left top of the 'y" in the (incredibly annoying) "Mystery Photo" watermark Thank you for saying what EVERYONE is thinking, that this unscrupulous Joe Saitta character is being a real jackass by placing giant text in his mystery photos. Maybe if unscrupulous Joe Saitta wasn't so busy possibly stealing others photos and definitely underhandedly and shamelessly promoting his ebay auctions and his books he'd have time to learn how to label his photos without ruining the viewing enjoyment for everyone. It seems unscrupulous Joe Saitta is incapable of not thinking about making money and puts that above all other endeavors. Take Pride,

I have a few of these myself but not that particular one. That photo is being used in a makeover of Vincent Seyfried's book that I'm doing, The New York & Queens County Railway / Steinway Lines. For more decades than I care to remember, I've been collecting photos from those two systems as I promised Vincent long ago I'd redo his book, which was his first and published in 1950. I do all the typesetting, layout, design, scanning, etc.so when the book goes to the printer it's completely camera-ready. This version will be in two volumes, the first with Vincent's written history and many photos from the College Point-Flushing-Jamaica Line, the second volume will have photos only from the remaining NY&QCR lines plus Steinway Lines. My granddaughter, 14 years old, is doing the raw typsetting, meaning she's inputting Vincent's text and then I correct it and make it look typographically good. She's a really big help.As an aside, as you probably know since you're a long-time traction fan, Mr. Seyfried published, long ago, books on all Queens traction systems except the Manhattan & Queens. It took me a few years but I finally convinced him, as he approached his late 80's in age, to do the M&Q, which was finally released about two years ago. Thus there is a traction history for every Queens operation. As an aside, just a few weeks ago I was culling out my rollsign collection, looking at some which were given to me but never opened. One almost threw me to the floor with surprise. I've had it for decades but never opened it. It was from Manhattan & Queens car #112, the last car to operate on that system. In a magic marker type of pen, that fact was inscribed on the rollsign by whomever was fortunate enough to have had the sign before me (I know who it was and he gifted me many rollsigns). Soon as I have some time, I'll photograph this sign and post it - it will not be a mystery rollsign. If I had only know that I had this actual sign, I would have included it in the M&Q book..... |

I do not believe the photos he posted of that 7 train nor the photos he just posted in BusChat were taken by him. They are good photos and Weinberg just doesn't know how to take a good photo. Those two photos taken of the black kids in the subway were pure Weinberg trash. Too bad he disrespected those kids this way. But "disrespect" is his middle name. |

It sounds strange but I have this memory of riding in the family car through that neighborhood and seeing a derelict steel structure that abruptly ended in mid-path.You're not the only one, I saw that bridge approach sometime in the '60s. My father who once lived in LIC drove through the area when I noticed it. I tried to revisit the area years ago, but could not find the bridge approach. But now you cleared up a mystery that has been bugging me for years. I do remember cars parked on the approach of what remained of that bridge. Thanks ! Bill Newkirk |

The building second from left, with the arched windows, was a carbarn, but accessible only from the other side on 51st Avenue (formerly Third Street), at least in later years. The large doors shown in this photo, however, indicate there may have been an entrance from Borden Avenue at one time, especially since there was a stub-end track on Borden that ended just east of the carbarn, from which it may have curved into the barn. |

These days I prefer a darker beer or ale such as Smithwick's and even on occasion Guinness or other types of stout. On a really hot day, however when COLD matters more than taste, I might go to one of the light beers like Coors or a Bud Light depending upon what the bartender says is the coldest beer in the house. |
