You want to switch places then?

I'm perfectly fine where I'm at now. The only thing I'm going to say is the day the M-V combo is killed, I'll be celebrating till next year.

You can't compare Jamaica Center & 179th Street to 2nd Avenue. Jamaica Center and 179 are feeder stations that takes people for parts of Queens that is extremely dependant on buses to the subway. With 2nd Ave, most people start and end their commutes at that station. Thinking other factors, when the M15 SBS is fully implemented, expect even more people to use that station.

You can make it to a train station walking and theres the M8,M9,M14A/D and M21

Suppose you currently live along the FDR Drive and you want to take the subway. What do you do, take the bus that is a block away or walk to 1st Avenue to take the train? I bet you would pick the bus over walking espectially in the winter.

And the Second Avenue El actually used First Avenue and Allen Street between 23d Street and Chatham Square.

I think passengers had to pay another nickle since the Second Avenue El at 14th Street was I.R.T. and the Fourteenth Street-Canarsie Line at First Avenue was B.M.T..

Possibly a paper transfer was established at Third Avenue - 14th Street after unification as the Third Avenue El ran until May 12, 1955.

I love how you tried to disregard me stating the fact Queens people are far more reliant on buses to get to the train than people where you live and then when I compared the terminals all of sudden you want to renege and agree with what I said.

And what authority do you have where your allowed to make an idiotic comparsion between the M-V and the J via Brighton but I cant compare the fact that 2nd Av isnt as important as Jamaica 179? Which leads me to state that if JAM-179 is fine with just the F then 2av will be fine with just the F.

You are completely missing the fact that people in that area at least have the freaking option to walk to a train. There are also 4 bus routes within a 4block radius of each other that all stop at trains. I have 2 buses in a 4 block radius to me and 1 of them runs twice an hour and doesnt even hit a subway stop, the other is a 45 min ride to the E. Your literally being selfish because even with no V at 2 Av you'll still have a 1 seat ride to Midtown wheres M riders dont. Please stop acting like East Village is in the middle of nowhere.

Those second avenue riders who are REALLY concerned about that can always walk over a few blocks to Broadway-Lafayette, where the B/D/F/V all stop and you can get the uptown 6 at Bleecker if you are going uptown on the east side.

Point is, at least you have that option, whereas on the upper east side (my old stomping grounds), try telling that to those in the most densely populated part of that where they currently only have the 6 train (anywhere from 72nd to about 82nd street), unless they want to walk to 63rd and Lex to get the F. That won't change until the SAS begins serving second avenue.

I do feel the pain that Lexington Avenue riders endure on a daily basis. I was one of them during my tenure at Norman Thomas High School.

Second Avenue & Broadway-Lafayette aren't that close as you may seem. The future transfer to the uptown 6 benefits not just the East Village but neighborhoods such as Park Slope, Ridgewood, Middle Village, and Bed-Stuy.

Unless the MTA wants to reassign some R-32s to the J, The new V will probably have to have some R-32s in the mix. It might actually go that way since the MTA will probably want to throw the QB riders a bone by making the extended line all R-160s in exchange for using only 8 X 60 foot car consists.

I have thought that might be the case as well. I would think the entire V line would be all R160s. Plus should there be any issues like at 53rd-Lex, they can always change the sign at the touch of the screen vs. manually changing all the signs on an R32.
I think it would make more sense to have R32s on the J as the south terminals only changes late at night.

Actually, the "south" terminal only changes on weekends. By the way, if the M/V combo is implemented, there will no longer be a through Eastern to Southern service so the J could and should be changed to NORTHBOUND towards Broad St and SOUTHBOUND towards Jamaica which is what it always was before Chrystie and how the tracks are numbered also.

Didn't the R-16s pre-Chrystie have JAMAICA-168 ST on the north roll? Years ago, I saw a pic taken of the sign on the train my grandfather was driving, and I'm pretty sure it was:

JAMAICA-168 ST
BROAD STREET
15 | JAMAICA LOCAL

Of course, sign north and railroad north don't always necessarily agree.

(BTW, no idea where the pic is now, last time I saw it was in 1976, when my mom and I were packing up my grandmother's things after she died. It's either in a box in storage, or gone forever, after moving from NYC to LA and then here to So. Florida).

It does, doesn't it?

Anyway, one new thought assuming the M/V combo does go through.

If such doesn't become 19/7 right away, one thing that could be done when the V would normally be running like the current M shuttle does would be when the C either would not be running at all or would not be running to Brooklyn is this:

The V runs the weekday route in Brooklyn to Broadway-Lafayette, then replaces the C between West 4th and either 145th or 168th.

This can also be done on weekends where the E would otherwise be terminating at 2nd Avenue, with EITHER the V replacing the E on those weekends and the V simply operating via 8th Avenue instead of 6th (unless the G.O. required a re-route to 6th Avenue) OR the E replacing the V along the V shuttle route (and the E using the V's cars on those weekends).
