The reason the MTA put the R32's through GOH which included the installation of A/C but did not do the same on the R27/30 is that the heavier weight of the non-stainless steel bodies of the latter would have caused them to exceed weight limits had they been retrofitted. I am not sure if this refers to capacity of the motors or the elevated structures those cars ran on. The R30's last served on the C before being replaced by R32/R38 cars in 1993 if I remember correctly. It seems that history is repeating itself as the last line R32's will run will probably be on the C. To me it is a shame to waste what was a well designed and executed car body design which could easily last another 10-15 years. Although the GOH detracted from their as-built appearance they still looked better than a lot of the later cars (especially R40/R42). |

Roughly i degree higher the #2 end goes into low cool. at roughly 74 degrees the #1 end shifts into high cool and above thet the #2 end goes into high cool. Of course there are other settings for overhead heat to dehumidify as well. |

Even if they went back to the 1870s, which woulda made them 80-something, the R32s will have lasted a long time, albeit not as long as Standards or perhaps as I''m inferring from your post, BU cars.Any way you slice it, the R32s outlasted ALL of the Post-WW2 cars, so far, and most of the 20th Century cars. Only the Steels and maybe Hi-Vs lasted longer. And the Lov-v trailers that were used in 3rd Avenue consists until 1969. |

It's just a general On/Off feature for the entire HVAC system.Of course, it IS the crew's responsibility to ensure that the HVAC circuit breakers are properly cut-in, but that's an entirely different matter..... |
