Yes, an "abandoned" interval.For example, let me give you an imaginary "stretch", or flex of headway which occurs when a train needs to be ABD'd, in order to provide even headways. Let's say we have these five intervals on the (C): 1700 1710 1720 1730 1740 The train that arrived at Washington Heights - 168 Street to make the 1720 has too many hot cars, and needs to return to the yard. Now there's no train to make the 1720. The 1720 out of 168 will be ABD'd for no train, and the preceding interval adjusted. The new intervals are: 1700 1715 1730 1740 So the line temporary operates on an extended headway of 15 minutes, and then goes back to normal after the abandoned interval. |
