Most whites are NOT racist

Didn't say they were, back then. I said the EU's founded by racists, though.

People simply don't understand the need for third tracks in some cases to say the least.

Probably still don't two years later.

Should make ALL of them spend a week or two living next to the NS diamond at Fostoria during the Christmas shipping rush, after that, LIC will seem like heaven after that...

Was there ever a resolution to this, or did the LIC people finally get used to the noise?

Well, all the planned electric equipment. No one planned for dual-modes in '68. The M-fleet was supposed to be the only things going through the tunnel. Every foot of diameter increases construction and ventilation costs.

ESA will help people who work near GCT. Up to 53rd and downtown a bit. Walking distance. And that is a LOT of people. Anyone who rides the E in the morning can see it.

The argument that GCT is no good for downtown is assuming the commuters are stupid. Why would they go to GCT and the crowded Lex Line, when there are several lines available at NYP?

Yeah, ever since this started, it's been my intuition that the railyard will meet the fate of the Jamaica El (east of 121st). Laws be damned....politicians will make the yard close. I'll bet a cup ofcoffee on that.

Considering that the LIC yard has been there since the 19th century, the LIRR should steal a march on everybody and get it landmarked. After all, the historical (and, IINM, timetable) beginning of the LIRR is Long island City. The signals were numbered in terms of mileage from LIC, not Penn Station.

Why not? The entire NYC subway system is a historical landmark. Doing so for the LIC yard would REALLY piss in the yuppies' coffee. :)

Would be the right thing to do.

Of course, the state of New Jersey withheld landmarking for Princeton station (Dinky terminus).

IF Sunnyside Station ever gets built. It was inclued in ESA to quell a politician that is long gone with a service that Amtrak has flat out stated will never happen.
