The remaining SMEE's in Jamaica should be restricted to weekday only service. They could even get away with running 480' trains if they so chose (but that would bring up all the issues we saw when the slants were put on the C). |

In the event of a delay in service, or a train that has to go to the yard in the rush, with R46's you can short relay and swap an R for a V and vice versa to avoid an cancelled train. Now you can't because you don't have time to change signs on an R42V to and R42R. |

READ THE POST AGAIN!There are 13 trains on the V. If all are R40M/42's, there are PLENTY of R32/40M/42's available for service on the E/F. There are more than twice the 130 "tin cans" on the V that are totally assigned to Jamaica. As it is there is an excess of 60 R32's at that yard. So there are still PLENTY of RFW's around. |

And during that time if there was a bad ordered train an abandonment was required. I can assure you there are very few abandonments at CTL for bad ordered trains up to yesterday. Once the ABD's start piling up at CTL that'll change... the V,G,R should run the R-160s over the E and F, because it would help CTL run far smoother especially when it comes to what trains are needed. You can easily interchange them. |

They say they will pick off the line. T/O's are pissed over door enablers. Many of them have been working the V since day 1. They all got spoiled with their nice transverse cabs and decent place to sit.My take is this: the tin cans are on the way out. More new R160's are going to the F. There has been talk of possible R160's on the R/V, but with the new management structure, the decision rests on the new Group General Manager. Even if not, the R46's would be back on the V since they'll be bumped off the F. Of course later, when replacements for the R46 come in, then they have no choice. But by then, many will probably be retired anyway. |

Posted by f179dj on Wed Jul 1 21:43:44 2009, in response to Re: Under New Management, posted by Grand Concourse on Wed Jul 1 21:26:19 2009. Why not? The E at one time was all R-46.We can debate the four doors on 60ft vs. on the 75ft cars until the cows come home, and the ability for faster loading/unloading that 60ft cars theoretically provide (40 doors per train vs. 32 doors). But "need"? This is a case where we have done it before, and there is no real reason why it can't be done again. It would help, though, if passengers moved to the center of the cars and did not congregate around the doors. |

Just R-46 on the G. It looks like there are more Jamaica retirees at Concourse than there were last week. Will check it out again. With such a huge and sudden R-160 influx, it makes sense the "Tin Cans" (60-footers) will be in the cross-hairs, real quick! Regards, George Chiasson Jr. (Widecab5@aol.com) |
