I think it would have looked better with the R62 and having the green 6 bullet in the front. I doubt most people care that the 6 runs R142s exclusively. I think many outside people connect NYC subway cars to the colorful numbers/letters. |

Wow, that's pretty incredible! Good catch. For a sec there I thought those were actually photoshopped! :)IMO, I think this R62A would most likely end up like the R22 Money Train car 51010. It really looks like the crews (I'm assuming CIY did it since they also worked on the R22 car) painstakingly did a lot of work to change her into an R142. And besides, I don't think they'll just spend lots of money just changing the car back to a R62A before scrapping it a few years later. |

I think many outside people connect NYC subway cars to the colorful numbers/letters.True. Also, I bet most people (including New Yorkers) wouldn't be too thrown by seeing an R-62/A as a 6 since they did run there for many years and may run there again in the future. Accuracy will probably be thrown out the window in parts anyway. I think the real reason is that the MTA wants to use this film to sport a new image to the country about what their subway is like. And they only want to show the newest and most modern looking equipment they have. This wouldn't be the first time since the last Taking of Pelhem displayed a train in near-mint condition when in reality a 6 train at that time would have likely been heavily tagged at least on the inside. And for The French Connection, they insisted that R-42s be used since they had less graffiti. |

It would be funny if it could run with other R-62A's as an oddball car. I doubt that would work since it's probably prop-condition and not actual seating like a real R-142 would have. But it's not quite as severely altered as that Money Train. |

Yeah it would've been funny, but I doubt it would happen. Like someone posted earlier though, accuracy wiil at one point be thrown out the window, so it would make sense I guess for the car to not be servely changed...given that the R62s/142s look a bit similar in appearance. On the other hand though, I doubt the car will be changed back to an R62A, since sooner or later, her sister cars will eventually be scrapped / reefed in a few more years. |

It still seems like a waste if that R-62A is permanently out of service just for movie shooting purposes, especially with these talks about A-division car shortages. As R30A mentioned, they have at least another 10 to 20 years before retirement, unless they're prematurely retired for greater standardization or something, but I doubt that would happen. |

Agreed, especially since despite the problems on A-division though, lots of things can happen...like already 3 R62s were reefed early this year, one in which could've been an excellent candidate to be changed for the movie. Of course I agree that they have 10-20 more years in them...but it's MTA we're talking about here.... |
