I was thinking more of something like the emergency covers for the BIE cord in the A-division. Do those deter any false BIE's? I don't know, just an idea. I see how allowing passengers to open those doors could be a problem, but I have always thought that there is also a danger in keeping them locked.Problem with those exit gates is that there is no reason not to punch out of fare control. Police stand right by allowing it. I've noticed some stations no longer have working alarms on those gates or very low alarms. |

Police stand right by allowing it.Police not only allow it, they do it too. Same with MTA employees. The slow going through HEETs is the major motivation for people to use the gates. |

(Theoretically, I suppose that one can kick out the window and then climb out through the window, but given that NYCT has judged that people don't have enough sense to cross in between cars, the thought that this procedure would be a viable alternative seems implausible). I wonder if operable latches or an operable cross-bar - as is used on railroads - would provide a sufficient barrier to the rider that wanted to cross in a non-emergency situation but would be surmountable barrier in the case of an altercation. And hopefully if the R179 cars end up being 75' long, they will have a design that maybe avoids some of these difficulties with having to lock doors. |

The R-44s and 46s as delivered had an emergency switch coupled with an alarm to allow for emergency passage between cars. Problems arose when students enroute to and from their institutions ofhigher(?) education used them to go from car to car just for the fun of it. These switches even though they remained in place were sealed up under unbreakable metal covers and so the emergency feature was lost. |

No more so than the 100 PCCorder for Brooklyn was a demo order. In both cases, the company planned additional orders but the city intervened. |

That may be true, but the 100 car PCC streetcar order was able to provide most if not all of the service on the lines to which they were assigned whereas the Bluebirds could not. |
