(Theoretically, I suppose that one can kick out the window and then climb out through the window, but given that NYCT has judged that people don't have enough sense to cross in between cars, the thought that this procedure would be a viable alternative seems implausible). I wonder if operable latches or an operable cross-bar - as is used on railroads - would provide a sufficient barrier to the rider that wanted to cross in a non-emergency situation but would be surmountable barrier in the case of an altercation.And hopefully if the R179 cars end up being 75' long, they will have a design that maybe avoids some of these difficulties with having to lock doors. |
