In the late 1920's there was a push to build up Montauk by Carl Graham Fisher. I didn't see any mention of an East End Subway in "A Pictorial History of Montauk: Second Edition" But a fast transit system ould have been essential to attract people to move out there.

While it is possible, it is characteristic of the way Hagstrom printed maps when lines were under construction. The maps showing the connection from Church Av to the Culver line and later from Euclid to the Fulton St el in the early 1950s were printed in much the same way. I also believe that the person who sent me the map has the original which would indicate that it couldn't have been photoshopped.

That white gap through Aqueduct is approximately where Linden Blvd. would be if it ran straight through. Did it ever do that?

Looking how the IND line curves after 75th St. seems to indicate that it would continue under Pitkin for a while, and then go under Sutter or 133rd. Ave.

AFAIK, Linden Blvd was planned to cut thru the neighborhood from Conduit Avenue to Cross Bay Blvd. But never built. In ForgottenNY there is a corner in the area where street signs stating "Linden Blvd" were put up. But the street never built thru.

Once upon a time Linden Blvd cut thru what is now the Aqueduct Race Track Parking Lot.

Pitkin Avenue curves to the right after 75/76 Street. Pitkin Avenue partually absorbed what was called "Old South Road".

I first became interested in NYC maps as a child (late 1950's), and my dad and I used to explore many of these areas. Ozone Park was an area of particular interest.

Almost all maps from those days showed Linden Blvd continuing past N/S Conduit Av, with a much more elaborate interchange. It proceeded NE between two baseball fields (the fences are still there with the ROW between them), and then went straight east. When Dumont Av. was connected to 88th St (late 1970's or early 1980's), there was a curb cut for Linden Blvd. at the SW corner at 88th St, which has since been filled in. There are now a couple of dead-end pieces of Linden Blvd between there and Cross Bay Blvd. The portion between 88th St. and Pitkin Av. appears to have been used by the DOT in the recent past.

The portion from Cross Bay Blvd. to Centreville St. exists, but is only built for one lane each direction. As far as I can tell, it has never actually extended across the NW corner of Aqueduct Racetrack. A Home Depot store now blocks the path it would follow west from Rockaway Blvd. and 113th St. Note however that there are still a few maps which show it, although most have gotten the hint.

Check out Google Maps for the intersection of 88th St. and Spritz Rd, Ozone Park, NY. If you look at Sutter Av. at 107th St, you'll see someone's large backyard immediately to the SE. It appears as though Linden Blvd. would have also touched this corner.

Enjoy,

Bob

My guess is that the subway would have run from Euclid Avenue via Pitkin Avenue to the race track, under the parking lot and continued along Linden Blvd when the route got to Rockaway Blvd.

Right. There is a block of Old South Rd. running from 76th to 77th Sts. After Pitkin Av, Old South Rd continued to Van Wicklin Rd, Albert Rd, North Conduit Av. to another piece of Old South Rd. between 126th and 128th Sts. It must have ended somewhere in the beach colony known as "Idyllwild", from which JFK Airport got its original name.

I don't know how long ago it was planned for Linden Blvd to cut thru Ozone Park from Conduit to Cross Bay. The houses built in the neighborhood likely go back to the 1920s.

I think the houses along the north side of Desarc Rd. and the south side of Gold Rd. (which block Linden Blvd. immediately west of Cross Bay) are probably about that old. Some of the others towards 88th St. are newer. Pitkin Av. itself, being a much older road, was widened and raised when the newer houses were built (late 70's or early 80's). Before this time, 88th St. did not exist along the east side of the ballfields, and 133rd and Dumont Aves. were both incomplete. Incidentally, when Dumont Av. was first connected, they signed it "135th Av", which is technically correct. These signs were later removed.

I once saw an old map of Queens showing Old South Road. After 126 and 128 Streets, the road went roughly northward toward Baisley Park.

There is an unnamed street running 1 block between 118 Street and Lefferts Blvd just north of North Conduit. I think that was also part of Old South Road.

As I mentioned in a much earlier post on this topic, when I was a trainmaster in 1983, while looking through the emergency exit book in the command center, there were 2 emergency exits listed that from their location description would have been past the bulkhead S/O Euclid. When the late trainmaster George Abere and I examined the street area where the exits should have been, they were nowhere to be found nor was there any evidence of where they might have been. As I mentioned before, however, since George and I first attempted to examine the area in late 1962 and 1983, there was significant construction and street repair done in the area which might have obliterated any trace of them.
