The MTA has a new image these days though, the Teal/World's Fair/TA Blue appears to be an image developed by the TA for the system during the 1964 World's Fair and was kept long after that during the fight against graffiti. The MTA currently is all about innovation and technology, and the stainless steel goes perfectly with the feel of the system. |

No, the windows are a PITA, but it's way better than when the trains were covered in graffiti. The trains looke much worse. Not to mention that since the door windows used to be those kind you can just kick out....well, the kids did, so it wasn't uncommon back in the late 70's and early 80's to get trains with some door windows missing completely. |

Just because it's vandalization doesn't mean that it's not art. You need to get over it. I'm not saying vandalizing anything is good, I'm just saying that just because it's vandalization, that doesn't change the fact that it is art. |

I haven't said ANYTHING about ghetto culture. I'm talking about graffiti and graffiti ONLY. And to say it serves no purpose is like saying the Mona Lisa served no purpose. I honestly think they serve the same purpose, and that's for the artist to show their skill/ability as well as to express themselves. |

I personally agree that the stainless steel is boring. The MTAs fleet in general is boring. LIB is probably the most colorful, with two thin stripes, one blue, one orange. Even the NYCT buses are more colorful than the subways. |

Grafitti is not art, since it's very definition implies vandalism and a collapse of social order. You're confusing the pretty paintings with what they represent. If taggers want to put their efforts into legitimate works of art, within the limits of the law, more power to them. But the entire grafitti sub-culture rejects this. The outlaw aspect of grafitti cannot be seperated from it's criminal and anti-social connotations, even if the pretty pictures look nice. |

The fleet is generally clean, reliable for the most part, the MTA finally achieving an all stainless steel fleet symbolizes the growth and modernization of the system.I don't think the MTA was ever looking to have "salad train consists" but they didn't have a choice nor could they do much about it due to lack of funding and other issues. The subways managed to keep a uniform look from the 1900s up to the 1950s, when new paint schemes where introduced. After 1964 with the World's Fair blue paint scheme, everything seemed to have went downhill with the motley of paint schemes and it wasn't until the early 90s when everything was sorted out in the MTA's favor with the Redbirds as the only non-stainless steel fleet in the system. |
