Metro-North tickets, crew, and the service appeared on the LIRR departure board.

Red herrings. Where are the billions to even think of starting the service? Where are the crew qualifications, even test runs of their allegedly-NYP-capable M8s?

There isn't even a start date for ESA opening; not that it's even linked to that.

You'll see ACS-64s in Rensselaer before you see Metro-North anywhere near NYP.

Why is it billions if they use diesel-electric locomotives at each end? I know I was somewhat scoffing at that elsewhere in this thread, but not because it would cost billions.

It wouldn't even cost anywhere near billions to install third rail down from Spuyten Duyvil.

Legitimate question, but NYS always seems to "find" money.

Where are the crew qualifications, even test runs of their allegedly-NYP-capable M8s?
A fair number of employees were qualified but even if not, that's not something to worry about until a year before opening.
As for as the M8s, they've already tested the M8 3rd rail shoes on random LIRR M7s, So all they would need to test is the signalling capability.

You'll see ACS-64s in Rensselaer before you see Metro-North anywhere near NYP.
While I'd love for that to be the case, I'm pretty sure I'll see Metro-North in NYP within the 2020s, and catenary in Albany maybe in the 2050s.

It will be with M-8's and over-sliding 3rd rail will be installed from Harold to GATE (about a mile) to avoid use of 25 cycle catenary.

They will use LIRR slots freed from ESA and not entirely back-filled with diverted Brooklyn and Hunterspoint electric trains. MTA told LIRR to release those slots. Helena Williams got fired for resisting with LI polticians' backing.

There won't be any LIRR slots "freed". I don't see how you actually believe that railfan line.

So where are the billions associated with this, eh? That's right; nowhere.

but NYS always seems to "find" money

Not for this. If this were happening, the money would have been "found" ages ago, just like they kept "finding" money for ESA when it went well over double its original budget. Never mind no solid opening date for ESA.

A fair number of employees were qualified but even if not, that's not something to worry about until a year before opening

And your railroad managerial skills tell you this? Takes a lot of union negotiations and with Amtrak (the owner) before even getting to that stage.

As for as the M8s, they've already tested the M8 3rd rail shoes on random LIRR M7s

Not the same thing. One does not test such things on vehicles already running third rail full time, but only for those vehicles tested on.

LMAO!

I think that mixed-use public transit right-of-ways similar to what Downtown Seattle has is the future of transportation

They haven't expanded beyond Seattle. There's a reason for that.

That is the MTA Line and policy, not the "railfan line". LIRR slots are being transferred to MN.

The money is in the MTA capital plan

No it is not. Things are still at the environmental assessment and preliminary design stage.

There is less than $1 billion in the MTA '15-'19 "Capital Plan" for this so-called project—and LIRR already "borrowed" from its allocation to buy M9s. They are still "seeking" more money at this stage—a "proposed" $1.131 billion, and that won't be enough either knowing how these guys operate. All hot air. Can't believe you're actually falling for it.

Seattle also no longer has a mixed-use public transit right of way, if we're talking about the downtown tunnel. It went all light rail last year.

At the behest of the local government and not the riders. They spent a lot of money replacing a busway that was less than two decades old with... another slower busway that no one asked for.
