I think this is the first time an IRT car and an B div car ran in the same consist in passenger service. I doubt the doors will open on the 33s cause of the gap.

I thought the R-32's were the 'Bluebirds' since the doors were blue.

I thought the R-32's were the 'Bluebirds' since the doors were blue.

The "Bluebirds" were the R-33's and R-36's with the picture windows that were assigned to the Flushing Line in 1964-65.

The original "Bluebirds" were six three compartment articulated units built for the BMT in 1938-39.

I am coming over especially for this - (from St Albans UK) does anyone have the schedules for the runs please ?

Staying in Central Brooklyn and immensely looking forward to Saturday.

One final question - how are the R32s ? - and before leaving for Boston on Sunday , plan to get some (last) trips on them - any information on their disposition / operation would be hugely appreciated.

I will wear my St Albans South signal box cap (maroon colour) , so would be good to meet / shake hands with any of you afficionados. Please do not ask me about Boris Johnson if I see any of you.

A good reason to leave the UK for 10 days.

The R32s are back on the 8th Avenue Line now that the R179s are finally in service I’m a decent quantity.

The Jamaica line is home to the last R42s, they’re usually used in rush hours.

For those of you who may not remember, the last 4 R-32s 3946-3949 which were equipped with experimental Pioneer III trucks had a much shinier exterior than the rest of the R-32s. The was rather pleased and inquired of Budd as to what kind of treatment they gave to those cars to make them look that way. The Budd Co insisted they did nothing different possibly afraid of some sort of legal action from the TA which would not have happened.

R-32's (and the later R-38's) had the same two-tone light blue color scheme as the single WF R-33's and WF R-36's. The only difference between the A and B Division cars was that R-32's and R-38's exteriors were stainless steel.

In comparison to everything else?
Absolutely.
My peeve is the fact that All new BMT equipment went to the southern division.
All 550 R27/30/30a,all 600 R32/32a.. instead of mixing them through out the system.

Same for the next batch.
The 38s/40/40m all went to Queens.
The 46 went directly to Queens, and Stayed there... until pushed out by the 160s.

The TA detested anything BMT-innovative. Triplexes were gone before the older rebuilt Standards were, and the some of the R1's were in worse shape than either. The Triplexes should have been sent to Jamaica Yard for GG service.

When I was a kid, well before I knew about the contract numbers, I referred to the R-32s as "Silver/Blue". The R-38s I called "Silver/Silver" since they initially had silver doors. The R-40s (4150-4449) I called "Slants" (DUH). I didn't know that 4450-4549 were R-40 (Modifieds), to me they looked the same as the R-42s (yes, I know now about the thinner striping, but I didn't notice details like that when I was a kid, and no internet back then to tell me different), so to me 4450-4949 were one class I called "A/C"

I was referring strictly to the exterior color of the doors. Actually, all BMT/IND R types from the R-32 up had the same 2 tone blue interior paint scheme.

It seems that the TA was afraid of anything articulated which is why they got rid of the Multis first. from what I have read, by 1950, articulation fell out of favor with transit properties which explains why when CTA place an order for a fleet of PCC rapid transit cars, it opted for married pairs rather than more articulated units like the original 4.
