When I was a kid, well before I knew about the contract numbers, I referred to the R-32s as "Silver/Blue". The R-38s I called "Silver/Silver" since they initially had silver doors. The R-40s (4150-4449) I called "Slants" (DUH). I didn't know that 4450-4549 were R-40 (Modifieds), to me they looked the same as the R-42s (yes, I know now about the thinner striping, but I didn't notice details like that when I was a kid, and no internet back then to tell me different), so to me 4450-4949 were one class I called "A/C" |
