So let me understand you, Jersey Joe. I said Robert Moses was a Jew (tongue in cheek) and you reply that you don't care what race he was. So just to clarify. Is it that you don't know that Jewish is a religion and not a race, or is it that you are an anti-Semite who conflates the two. Now since you've never given any indication of previous anti-Semitic inclinations, I have to assume that you are just a fucking moron.

They were protesting a tiny statute in Rocket City (Alabama, where the gov't and missle agencies all are facebook, google, and all the spooks), and someone asked why is everything named after a guy who was actually a Nazi. The response was that he did a lot of good in the community.

I drove from Montauk to Pittsburgh last week. It took me 2hrs to get to the Throggs Neck Br., Another 90 min to get to & cross the GW Bridge (with its never ending construction) via the terminally tied up Cross Bx. If there was a Cross the LI.Sound crossing from somewhere in Nassau Co, I could have made it to I-287, cross the Tappan Zee Br., shot down 278 to hook up with with I-80 westbound, thus avoiding the City altogether. Since thats never been done for obvious reasons, I'll never know how much time & wear & tear on my car I'd save. But, as you say, avoiding the 5 boroughs is optimum

Moses wanted to build the Cross-Sound Bridge but opposition by residents in the areas on both sides of the proposed bridge complained loudly. Since Moses by that time (late ‘60s - early ‘70s) no longer had the political power he once wielded, and since by that time politicians realized that Moses was a hated figure and his highways and bridges didn’t alleviate traffic the way he promised, the project was permanently shelved by 1973.

It’s also plausible that you would have saved nothing. Those roads would be even more congested than now, and you would have also had to travel a longer physical distance.

I disagree. He did not do more harm than good. Just imagine NY without any highways. It would be impossible to get around. Brooklyn only has the Bet Parkway which continues onto the BQE. It takes just as long to get from southern Brooklyn to Park Slope as it does to get to Nassau County, about 45 minutes. Mass transit even takes longer.

And the argument that if his highways were not built mass transit would have been built in its place cannot be proven. You still had the oil lobby fighting for highways. Moses took just as much money from hospitals and schools as he did from transit to build his highways, parks and housing.

We all know about the harm he did, but it it not outweigh all the good he did like building 200 playgrounds in one year. I don't believe his building of high rises was racist. He was just misguided thinking he was removing slums.

He was never well liked in NYC which is why nothing was named for him inside the city. By right the Triborough Bridge should have been named after him because he was the one who got it built after it was stalled for 14 years. But it wasn't because he was so hated. RFK had nothing to do with the bridge, and as great as a man as he was, it should have remained the Triborough.

Should we remove Jefferson's name from everything because he was a slave owner?

I-287, both in NY and NJ, can be horrendous.

Never take the Cross Bronx (or the ramps from the Major Deegan up to I-95). 99% of the time you are better off taking the Triboro and the Harlem River Drive to get to the GWB from Queens.

Moses on balance was a huge detriment. Highways designed to prevent buses, blocking subway extensions. His LoMex plan was insane.

Historically, "erasing" the monuments to prior rulers is BTW a very common and ancient tradition going back to chiseling out the name of a previous no longer revered Pharoah. And today, if you have money, you just pay to rename--been to Avery Fisher Hall recently? hint, it is now David Geffen...

They were going to the Bronx, but both to distract Michael and to shake anyone who might have been following them, they took a “detour” partially across the bridge and made the sudden U turn in the middle of the bridge. AFAIK, such a U turn is not possible on the real GWB.
