Moses wanted to build the Cross-Sound Bridge but opposition by residents in the areas on both sides of the proposed bridge complained loudly. Since Moses by that time (late ‘60s - early ‘70s) no longer had the political power he once wielded, and since by that time politicians realized that Moses was a hated figure and his highways and bridges didn’t alleviate traffic the way he promised, the project was permanently shelved by 1973. |
