The closed taxi ramp goes north-south. You could extend it 100 miles and it would never reach 9th Avenue.

If you also extend Ninth Avenue, they would intersect after about 3,418 miles.

Heh.

Actually, I believe the avenues are perfectly parallel to the extent 19th century surveying techniques allowed. And anyway, they don't run north-south. They run about 29 degrees east of north.

If you look at a US Geological Survey map of a rural area out west, where all the township and section lines are laid out, you see occasional breaks in the nice pattern of straight lines and 90 degree angles. Those are where they have to make adjustments for the curvature of the earth.

I know about that, But figuring out where they would intersect other than at the north pole is too confusing for me.

Basically,you nailed it.
New entry..connectors to the old Penn station...new concourse all coming together nicely.
Amtrak is a tepid agency.
We'll have to wait and see.

What I'm asking is what is the planned use of the space railroad-wise.

Nothing.

At Empire State plaza in Albany, they have exactly that. A large unbendable steel arm and a flimsy arm have to go up before the buses and official vehicles can enter the bus terminal in the center of the plaza. Our local access-a-ride equivalents could go in as well.

A taxi stand need only a height restricting bar (so nothing taller than a minivan) and that same steel arm, and a plate reader that OKs anything with TLC plates.

Not if they allow boarding from the existing concourse as well. It's just that Amtrak "customer service facilities" would be moved to the other side of 8th, but as long as they don't restrict boarding to just Moynihan, then it will actually be an improvement.

What do you think they're going to do?

Also, maintenance of the new concourse is not free. Guess what will rise to pay for it?

We all know Amtrak loves Kindergarten lines in NYPS and all over the country with 1 way in, part of their motivation to go to Moynihan so they can do it without impeding NJT commuters, does not advertise boarding at alternate locations now, so don't expect anything different in the future.

LION thunked dat da taxi ramp ran east and west on 33rd. Maybe LION is incoreect, but him remembers tha dad of him going down the ramp and was sure we was walking toward ninth. Maybe that was a different ramp. Maybe that is where the pax went when the cabs dropped them off.

OK LION would build a NEW TAXCI ramp along 33rd street, perhaps elevated, perrhaps on ground level. Elevated would keep taxi traffic away from moving traffic.

Money is always a problem, unless the plan arises from the Democrat side of the house.

OK, I have another idea: FI. Let the chips fall where they may and let peeps drag their luggage to the consorse that they want.

After all, at the gnu moaningham station, they will have to go up before they can go down cause they are not going to remove the monumental steps or facade of the old poseroffice.

A nice conjecture, but a false one.

As part of phase 1, they have already added a street level entrance at 31st and 7th, which currently only allows access to a simple new concourse with no facilities on the west side of 8th Ave.

In 2016, the state Economic Development Corporation, the MTA, and Amtrak issued a Joint Solicitation for the Development of the Empire Station Complex, which included both the Farley Building/Moynihan Train Hall request for proposals and the Penn Station request for expressions of interest/request for qualifications. The former is what is now under construction to create the Moynihan Train Hall and the office space at the Ninth Avenue end of Farley. The latter would create a plan to redevelop both levels of the existing Penn Station to create more space, light, and access including the since announced project between the MTA and Vornado to widen add additional street access to the 33rd Street corridor of the Long Island Rail Road level as well as other possible changes to access such as rebuilding the corner entrances on Eighth Avenue and/or creating a grand entrance on Eighth where the Theater at MSG is currently. I attended a couple of Penn Station-related events last year, the Jane's Walk tour of the completed parts in Farley last May and a Rebuild Penn Station event last October. At one--and I don't recall which; it could have been at both, the question of what would become of the Amtrak space in Penn once Moynihan Train Hall opened was raised and the response was that no plans had been developed yet. And, I don't know what came of the RFEI/RFQ, but I believe that there would years of planning ahead including an EIS.

Aha. Of course, any plan that shuts down any of the stairways or escalators would be stupid in the extreme. One of Penn's biggest problems is time required to get from platform to street level.

I think that's just the beginning of it, the new LIRR entrance for 33rd and 7th that will go with the widened 33rd Street corridor that will take 20 feet from Vornado's retail spaces on the level. The RFEI/RFQ could lead to a much more massage project beyond this or possibly taking the Theater at MSG space and making a "grand entrance." I think the person who answered the question at the event I attended said they weren't limiting the ideas on what could be done. I just wish Vornado had waited on the 2 Penn Plaza redesign. The show Seventh Avenue side should be rethought and possibly opened up to provide "grand entrances" there to both levels of the station.
