A guy comes rubnning up the street anth another guy yelling STOP THIEF.LION got out in front of him, the football tackle of LION was never that good, but the perp bounced off of me into a plate glass window, which fortunately did not break since it was one of the buildings that I had to care for. The perp dodged back out into the middle of the street to run head long into a pair of fire fighters who did have some football tackle ability and took the perp and his chaser into the firehouse and called for the police. 2) A guy with a chain was stalking a lady, and she crossed to my side of the street to be safe, but the perv came over to this side too. I saw a cop car and told the officers what was going down, but they had to drive out to the Avenue to turn around. I turned my back on the perv with the chain, and the cops watched him fling the chain at me, I never turning back to look at him. But the cops saw his actions and took him into custody. If were no cops, I would have kept myself between the perv and his prey, he looked kind of wimpy to me and I had no fear of his chain. Just so the woman could get away. But in those days I was still in my 20s or early 30s and as with all people of that age, was invincible. ROAR |

The real world is messy and no advice is applicable in all circumstances. Running away isn't always possible. Calling the cops can be as dangerous as interceding for certain types of crimes. Recording from a "safe" distance is an incredibly messy calculation that can be impossible to make in the heat of the moment.You're presenting a rather good argument for universal concealed carry. If I can't run or call the cops, it would be nice to have a "fight" option I actually have a chance at winning. I mean, I'm okay with a samurai sword but those aren't allowed in public in NYC either (not to mention, difficult to conceal most of the time). And as you've said, there's no one course of action which will always work. Concealed carry simply presents an additional option on my list. |

It’s not an amateur claim, it’s based on actual experience. I used to have a next door neighbor who constantly vandalized my house and even assaulted my mother. At one point, he broke into the front door and I pepper sprayed him. We both went to the precinct house and although the charges were eventually dropped, I still had to undergo the hassle of being fingerprinted and having to make a court appearance. As far as the neighbor was concerned the case was ACDed (adjourned contemplating dismissal) which means that if he doesn’t commit any more violations, his case will be dismissed. He continued to do a few minor act of harassment and when I informed the DA’s office was told that what he did wasn’t serious enough to warrant any action. Eventually I sold the house and moved out of the neighborhood entirely. |
