The only REAL and NECESSARY Federal expense is the military.

True, or close to it. But the vast majority of our military spending is for overseas adventures that are by NO means necessary to the security of the country.

The colors come from the 2000 election (Bush v. Gore). Up to that point, the colors were swapped every four years. But because of the extended uncertainty about who won that election, the colors used that year became fixed in the American psyche, and they have continued to be used ever since.

Pelosi will get him impeached by February 2019. No question about that.

If the Senate stays Republican, they will be vindictive enough to turn on Trump as they will finally see him as an albatross for 2020 and vote to remove. They'd get far more down with Pence anyway.

NOPE!

NOBODY works for minimum wage in North Dakota. Minimum Wage is a JOKE! ($7.50/hr something like that) Walmart starts people at $12-14/hr, so that has become the defacto minimum wage, most get paid lots more than that.

Your employer don't want to pay that much, then go to the guy down the street, he will be happy to pay your more.

HEY! North Dakota is at FULL EMPLOYMENT, Help Wanted signs are found all over town. Only people with no work are those who are unable to work for whatever reason or do not want to work.

Even severely handicapped persons can get work here.

Highways are not as important here as they are in places like Atlanta. Yet their commuter get 90% of their capital road expenses paid by the federal government. So it's a regional discrimination, and why we are net donor states.

If I have to subsidizer Perimeter Highway, they have to subsidize us.

SAS and ESA are not of much use except to LIRR commuters and upper east side markets. Your logic says little federal money should go to that too.

In fact, you seem opposed to UMTA/FTA doing any more than 20% for any transit projects. That has not been the way it has been since the 1960's. It started with CTA's Skokie Swift as a federal project

That's because North Dakota doesn't have a high population. Therefore, manpower is at a premium, and the value of each person's labor is locally higher.

Even paramedics do fairly well in ND, earning an average of $33.52/hr., which is an astonishing 87% above the national average. The same medic working in Alabama gets less than nothing, by comparison. Come to think of it, IINM, even FDNY isn't paying paramaniacs thatvwell!

And to add, if it had been Sanders vs. Trump, I actually believe Scott Walker (Governor of Wisconsin and a big poster boy of the Koch Brothers) is President right now because the Kochs likely go and "hijack" the Conservative Party, have Walker (or if not him, another "GOP Establishment" candidate) run on that with the idea of targeting enough states to get to 80-100 Electoral Votes, enough to prevent a Sanders or Trump win. From there, it would have gone to a simple vote of states (one vote per state) in the House where Walker/GOP "Establishment" Candidate gets the 26 states necessary to take the White House with the same process done in the Senate for the Vice President.

That to me is what the Democrats feared would happen if it had been Sanders vs. Trump.

This all came up because Mitt Romney was actually looking to run a third-party campaign where he would win enough electoral votes to prevent Trump or Hillary/Sanders from winning. Bloomberg was on record as saying HE would also have run had it been Sanders vs. Trump.

In my view, the Kochs (who actually sat out the last Presidential Election) would have paid the Conservative Party enough to have their intended candidate "step aside" and let them use it to run an "Establishment" candidate that most likely to me would have been Scott Walker, whom to many is the poster child of why the Kochs are bad for the US.

Hillary actually won the popular vote.

Trump won because of mainly elderly voters who wanted a return to the "good times" of the 1950's and '60s when many of them THRIVED in more favorable times TO THEM. Same reason their British counterparts voted for the Brexit in England in June 2016 where they actually said that about returning to an earlier time.

no, actually he is spot on. MAGA which was the orange liar's most popular slogan explicitly harks back to a time when a man could get a job straight out of barely graduating HS and afford a mortgage a stay at home wife and kids. Of course, the reality is that was not quite what the past was like for everyone, but the fantasy is what he evoked. (and not to ignore, part of it was also a time when "....knew their place", gays were hidden, Latino and other non European immigrants were few, and the picket fences were kept painted.

You are,of course, entitled to ignore history, disbelieve what those of us in our 70s remember living through, and buy into the scapegoating of the immkigrants who fled dire poverty in the countiries south of us, etc. BTW if you think migant farm workers ever had it easy, go find Harvest of Shame the final Ed Murrow doc for CBS which ran around Thanksgiving 1960. The difference is that back then many were "native born" Americans working for starvation wages; now more are Latinos. BTW, current estimates are that 35k Irish "undocumenteds" are lurking around Boston; have you heard of any ICE raids aimed at them? I thought not.

Wait, aren't the billions of dollars because we have to (re)build bridges and dig tunnels under the river? Whether the tunnels straddle the current ones or whether they're going to be set some distance away isn't the big cost factor, is it?

The remark Spider-Pig made was:

"I disagree. Placing both tunnels on one side of the existing tunnels is simpler as both tunnels can share construction staging."

My response was:

Right, throw away several billion dollars to save on the cost of a couple of $250,000 each temporary construction access bridges.

The key words in my response were temporary and access.

That doesn't make sense.

The path I am referring to is the path in the plans of the canaled project, not a path that would put both tunnels down stream adjacent to the existing tunnels.

The only reason I can think of for the chose of the path in the canaled project is the tunnels have a less steep ruling grade.

But I'm focusing on the "throw away several billion dollars" because you feel that 1) the location of the tunnels is bad, 2) they're wasting money on the NY end. However, looking at the probable entrance location on the NJ end, it's not even 1/2 mile away from the current tunnel entrance. The difference between them narrows on the NY end, but that shouldn't account for a huge difference in length. The most likely increase in cost would seem to be from the appropriation of private property. As far as the changes it would require on the NY end, it would be far less intrusive than what you're proposing:

It shows the extra tracks basically being added on to the current interlocking, as opposed to tearing up and rerouting existing tracks, which would disrupt service far more and still cost a ton.
