Install five car markers, where needed, to run in service a single five car R160 set to line up cabs with platform monitors.

I know they did it with the N train for years-8 car R32s and 8 car R46s from the introduction of the R46s until the route with the R train in 1987. They did it with the GG with the R10s, R32s and R46s-to a lesser degree until 1985.

I remember they did this during the summer of 1978 and 1979 on weekends when they operated 8 car R40s and 8 car R44s.

I only saw three sets of R32s on the Far Rockaway A train yesterday.

Were they running 8-car or 10-car R-32 sets on the "C"? I have seen one 10-car R-32 set on the "A" coming from Lefferts.

J got one 8 car train of R179s replacing an R32 J train
8 R32s transferred to 207
4 8 car R32 C trains become 4 10 car R32 A trains
4 R46 A trains become C trains.

So the R32 situation on the J is pretty much status quo, except for 1 train set ?

Until more R179s come, I think so.

AM service: 5/R46; 2/R32 (8 cars); remainder R160 (8 cars).

PM service: one of those R46'S consists go to the A.

The 5 R46's are supposed to come out for heavy ridership AM rush intervals, presumably "flagged" by the traffic checkers.

That's what I'm trying to figure out. Also, couldn't some of the cars in work duty be returned to revenue service? Do they need some special inspection or workover before they can come back?

There was a time when the shoulder periods had shorter trains than those in the peak. I recall in the late 1950s/early 1960s the first few CCs were 8 cars and the ones in the peak were 10. The first few 8 car trains that returned back to Bed Pk then made the last few CC intervals at the very end of the rush hour. It could be possible to do something similar with the C whereby the first few intervals could be 8 X 60 footers and they could then remain in service all day while the few 600 ft trains could lay up midday.
