There was a time when the shoulder periods had shorter trains than those in the peak. I recall in the late 1950s/early 1960s the first few CCs were 8 cars and the ones in the peak were 10. The first few 8 car trains that returned back to Bed Pk then made the last few CC intervals at the very end of the rush hour. It could be possible to do something similar with the C whereby the first few intervals could be 8 X 60 footers and they could then remain in service all day while the few 600 ft trains could lay up midday. |
