Interesting.

It's been assumed on WNBC-TV that the Engineer was one of those killed based on reports and witness accounts that the Engineer was found slumped.

They have now lowered the death total to one from three, if so, the woman on the platform as previously reported.

CBS is terming the engineers as the "conductor" You can't take the media's terminology to the bank.

Yes, over the last hour, they have rolled back the fatality counts from a mixed bag of 1 and 3 on various channels to 1 (and 2 critical). That has got to be a good thing.

Heard it was about 30 MPH, but we'll find out in a day or two. NTSB just got there.

I am sure far heavier and elaborate bumper blocks will be coming to Hoboken and the stub track 1 - 4 in NYPS.

PATH and SIR have rammed bumper blocks repeatedly, but not causing so much a calamity.

I have said that in my office how anyone cannot tell the engineer from the conductor terms. They say "well we don't know - you know trains".
I answer back, "OK, the conductor drives the train and the engineer punches tickets - how does that sound".

These are 3rd grade vocabulary words, not railfan jargon.

Some idiot from NBS News was comparing this to the Sully Sullenberg landing. One things has nothing to do with the other.

Then FOX5's Kelly kept carrying on the trains should have seat belts. I suppose he thinks ail passengers would stay seated until the "conductor" turns off the "Fasten Seat Belt sign" after they arrive at a terminal. The privileged child has obviously never ridden a commuter train.

For the Erie lines, Secaucus Lower Level in the new Hoboken. Quite a hassle to get there from Jersey City/Exchange Place work locations.

I suppose they'll honor Hoboken tickets out of NYPS, and a lot of lower Manhattan PATH/NJT commuters headed to Hoboken will be buying a Mterocard today to get up to NYPS.

It will also make the XBL Bus situation that much worse from any Erie line passengers who decide to take the bus. From NJT's numbers that I have from 3rd QTR 2015:

45% of the Bergen/Main and 51% of the Pascack go to Hoboken.
44% of the Bergen/Main and 38% of the Pascack go to NYPS.

Combined total passenger to NYPS is 16,850
Combined total passenger to HOB is 18,300

So expect the NYPS - SEC passengers from those lines to about double in size so long as Hoboken is out.

The Hoboken Terminal is so destroyed it may be weeks before it some some semblance of normalcy

A news video showed cab car 6XXX just about touching the wall that divides the concourse and the waiting room. I wonder if it hit the wall and caused any structural issues. That should be where the ticket office is.

Why doesn't the news understand it was a Push-Pull train in the push mode so the control cab was in the front with the engineer?

Yes. Engine is almost always at west end of trains there.

It's unbelievable how dumb ,(or something) , news reporters are, which has been discussed in this thread.

Even Andrew, who gave several otherwise intelligent interviews on various stations, keeps calling the train's operator a "conductor".
Even Christie knew better.
