Oldest NYC Subway car you ever rode on NYC Subway

With all the NTT looking alike, and the diversity of subway trains disappearing, I'd like to know:

What's the oldest NYC Subway car you have ever ridden on?

One proviso: Not on a train on a museum line or a fan special - has to have been in regular revenue service on the NYC subway itself.

I've ridden IND cars that said "City of New York" on the side hundreds of times. R1/9 I think?

I've once each ridden the Myrtle Avenue El its full length to Jay Street and the Third Avenue El in the Bronx.

Oldest? Had to be the MUDC's on the Third Avenue El. Weird floors, I was very young at the time but dropped a penny on the floor. They had these really weird slats, much like duck boards in fish shops. Hard to get your penny back. :)

Also did the Q cars on the Myrt, and of course plenty of HiV's and LoV's on the Aye-Ar-Tee.

Oldest NYC Subway car I have ever ridden on? R-10s on the A Line. The fastest R-10 ride I have ever ridden on was on a Far Rockaway-bound A train on the CPW Express. R-10s would bounce on the tracks going in both directions. Loud and fast -- that's the way the R-10's were, just how I liked it.

Oldest in regular service? 1300 series BUs on the Myrt.

If I can count modified cars, it would have been one of the Qs that had been converted from a 1200 series BU, but I wouldn't have known which Qs those were back in the day.

And we can still ride 1273, but not in regular service.

Does not apply. Museum cars that were officially retired, resurrected and run for special events do not make that claim.

I had to use the Interborough Fleet roster at nycsubway.org to sort out some early memories along the Broadway-7th Avenue subway. Boarding at Marble Hill (West 225th Street), the first car would often be a deck-roof motor, and there was a railfan window low enough for my eyes and nose.
---
However, from what I figure out on the roster, we would sometimes encounter a Lenox Avenue local south of 96th Street with either a full-width cab or a door window that was too high for me to see out front. I presume these would be among the 300 Gibbs Motors (3350-3649) still hanging around the system, and older than the deck-roofs.
---
The Broadway-7th Ave. expresses that we rode from Marble Hill could have "armstrong" doors on the first and 10th cars because conductors were nearby. Sometimes, and it was rarely seen, a five-car train on a Lenox local would have 4 conductors, all cars being "armstrong."

Around 1964-65 when I was very small, I rode the H&M on one of the elder steel cars with my dad from Hoboken to Hudson Terminal, his office then was at 90 West St. We rode the first car and the end door was open, nice for ventilation, but it smelled wierd and crap from the RoW kept flying into the car. Couldn't tell you which series train it was, but it did have the arched windows. I also remember the cars being rather dirty.

A short time later, might have been the same day as above, we rode a set of BMT AB Standards uptown on Broadway. Most side windows were open, and I remember it being very loud and crowded with clunking stuff under the floor.

Steve, they want to know what were the oldest cars you rode. Like when you were a kid and the gate cars you used to ride were just converted from electricity from steam locomotives!

When I was 8 in 1952 my parents rode the BMT 1300 series gate cars from Fresh Pond Rd when we just moved to in the adjacent apartment house there and I was forever hooked on rapid transit from then on, I rode these cars along with the Standards and the Multi's as well with my friends in later years for joy rides, then rode the Q cars for four years to George Westinghouse V.T.C. high school in lower Brooklyn at 49 Flatbush Extension and still later the Standards to work every day ...... damn I'm missing those days LOL. I rode the 1300's and the "Q's' on Myrtle Ave. Also rode the 3rd Ave el "Q's' once, going south to Chatham Square in the AM rush hour and taking the MUDC Vestibules northbound, back to the Bronx.
