Yes, because I even worked that a few times, and I had never even seen the 46's on there, but only heard about them (probably from here). They were on, but only very briefly. Afterwards, it was a combination of 32's and 68's, while the 46's went to the E.

I thought they mainly used Jamaica R32s during that period and it was rather uncommon to see a 46.

Common sights? No, on the contrary, the only equipment the Q generally used from Jamaica was R-32's. That picture is the exception, not the rule.

I think some ran on the E.

Keep in mind that there was a major service cut in effect, so lots of cars didn't need to be used anywhere.

I do wonder, though, how ENY got by without borrowing equipment, with a slight extension on the M and a major extension on the J. (Or did it borrow R-40's from CI? Since the N wasn't running, that would make sense.)

As for your particular source, that same source "saw" an R-110B C train several years after the R-110B's stopped running.

I was working the M during the 9/11 situation and firstly an R32 did one trip the very first morning and was ordered off the line since 8 car R32's are "conductored" 4x4. Sure they could have worked door operation 3x5 but the superintendants didn't want things to be more confused than they were already. The M mostly ran slants with a smattering of R42's, the extended J to 95 ran all R42's.

OK, maybe one did appear on there later on, but still, the aim was to keep them off. They are not absolutely banned, like the Eastern Div., and an F cqan be rerouted that way if necessary, but still they try to keep them off as much as possible.

I don't know about 1989, but not in the case of 2001. Nothing but R-68's and R-32's (and maybe R-68A's) were assigned to the Q. There were a few isolated sightings of R-46's on the Q, but they were few and far between.

Somebody posted that he saw an R-46 set on the E a few days ago. Does that mean that R-46's are assigned to the E? Of course not.

Similarly, there are no R-68's assigned to the B, even though I occasionally run into one.

That was 1981 and it was confined to the IRT, except for a very limited number of R-27/30s that were painted for a movie. It started on the Flushing Line, after Corona Yard received a double fence topped with razor ribbon wire, with guard dogs between the fences. Mayor Koch was credited with the idea of painting the cars white.

So you're saying it was an "assignment"? It seemed more like an emergency shifting around to me, as the Q was merged with a line that was assigned mostly 46's. Then, it seems they changed it afterward; but that would still prove the point that they didn't want them on the Q for some reason.

When the R40M's(& a few Slants) were assigned to ENY, they ran them daily. You can still catch R40's on the N on weekends. The biggest problem of both the R40S/M & the R42 are the bad windows seals on the openable windows. Whenever it rains, the windows leak and the seats get wet.

In any case...with the 160's coming later this year[at least thats what I was told],and completely gone by 07...I suppose they will head down to the southern division.

B trains were predominately R-38's, but I also recall R-42's (4600 and 4800 numbered cars). I think later in the year, R-10s were also on the E and F lines as many of the R-46s were pulled. I also recall r-32s on the E and the occasional r-27-30 on the D. I once recall seeing an R-27-30 D pulling into Bway Lafayette, but most of the side signs read N Continental Av-Whitehall St !!!!

Actually, by 1980, the R-46 truck problems had those cars moved to the (CC) while the (E) got many of the R-10s (I remember because I actually rode then).

(CC) trains were usually six R-46 cars in rush hours then.

(AA) was mostly R-32s (R-42s were pretty much on the (B) as I remember).

(N) as I remember was mainly R-46.

Thing we're bad in 1980, so anything that ran popped up anywhere. But in general:

AA: R38, R42
H: (still called CC) R10/R46
N: R32/R46
Q: R27/30, R42.

No were running in revenue service R9's in 1980.
The Rockaways had R10's, R-27/30's, and R-38's.

In 1980's QB- R27/R30 mostly. Usually one R42 train set. Occasional R32. Always 8 car IIRC. Ran R1-9s in the 70's.
