That was 1981 and it was confined to the IRT, except for a very limited number of R-27/30s that were painted for a movie. It started on the Flushing Line, after Corona Yard received a double fence topped with razor ribbon wire, with guard dogs between the fences. Mayor Koch was credited with the idea of painting the cars white.David |
