Given the unfolding information, it's quite likely that once he's cleared, he'll want to get back up on the horse. Even more likely that Amtrak is going to have a new union leader if what happened on his westbound bears out. I mean where do you go after Amtrak? CSX? Doubtful. |

Broadway: Sometimes it is hard to credit your comments. You're an intelligent man. I can only assume that its early in the morning and you haven't had your porridge yet. Our government is not perfect. It never was and never will be. Its a work in progress. No man or state is an island onto itself We depend upon each other. Minot AFB is located in your home state of North Dakota. It employs over five thousand military and several hundred civilian workers. The base requires a lot of food and supplies which in turn create jobs and puts money into the local economy. Is this welfare? We could close the base. One base more or less won't make much difference. The economic impact to the community would be devastating. Are you prepared to make it up? The point is that this base is run by the same government that you damm. I don't know your past history but I have lived in a dictatorship where you did not criticize the government in word or deed. You might have landed in jail for your comments or just simply disappeared. America is only as perfect or imperfect as we make it. If you don't like our government I suggest that you do something to change it. Get out and vote, organize political action committees, take out notices in the newspapers but don't sit home and blame the guys in Washington for your troubles. Larry, RedbirdR33 |

It is warehouses and junk commercial in a blighted area should be easy to condemn, assuming Nutter does not make an issue.FRA is mandating both curves be reduced to 45MPH, immediately, and enforced by ordinary cab signals. The preceding block cannot remain at 125MPH. Think timed-signals approaching the Crescent Street curve. |

Westbound speed drop was from 125 to 50Eastbound was from 80 to 50, so not considered worthwhile. Some have a philosophical opposition to using the old ATC cab signals system as a means to enforce speed limits, and do it only where FRA has told them to, or they had a wreck. |

If the engineer is knocked out or unaware of their location, speed limit x is as useless as speed limit x+5. Posting it for 2mph would have made no difference in this case. If anything, that curve needs a higher limit, and some form of automatic control for fallback. The train made it 3/4 around the turn at over double the posted speed, the needed speed safety margin is less than 100%, therefore (in my amateur opinion) the posted speed is too low. |
