The elevators connect to the north side of the underpass.

As of Friday, the scheduled opening of street entrances via WTC is "Early January."
This info is from the WTC Progress Facebook page.

FALSE! It is not the Citigroup Center through which the transfer passageway runs. In any event, the building originally known as the Citicorp Center was completed in 1977.

However, I do vaguely remember that the building south of Citigroup Center got some perks in return for the passageway being constructed.

50th St passageway?

- The former passageway at 50th Street that connecting the #1 train on Broadway to the C & E trains at 50th Street/Eighth Avenue were definitely outside the paid fare zone.

former passageway? Did it recently close? I used it last month but noticed last week it was shuttered and just figured it was fluke one day thing.

It is private property. MTA has no control over it.

It was closed for much of the last decade or so. It reopened a few years ago.

Yes no need to spend $1.4 billion and still give incorrect information.

This has nothing to do with the cost of the Fulton Center. The current standard is that outside stations signs do not depict night only service. It has been shown in this thread that Fulton is no exception. There is no need for this policy to change because your idea would cause more confusion, not less.

"No one realized how close Lawrence and Jay was until the passageway was built."

Actually there were plenty of us who realized just how close those stations were.

There were plenty of weekends when the A & C trains were not meeting the #4 and #5 trains at Fulton Street/Broadway/Nassau for some reason - tunnel re-routes, GO's, etc.

I would take the R-train to Lawrence Street EXITING the station and walking one block to the A & C trains at Jay Street was my alternative path to work. Plenty of times I just paid an extra fare to make this "out of system" transfer, in the days of the Blue Metro-Card.

I despised the time consuming trips to travel to West 4th Street and back and all-around just to get to/from my job in Brooklyn. The connection between the A & C trains and the #4 and #5 remains the only transfer station between those lines.

The movement to the Unlimited Gold Metro-Card, simply meant that this out-of-system transfer did not cost any extra money. This issue has been talked about on this forum before.

The recently built transfer just makes the trips to/from home easier, except when there was a hurricane that closes the Montague Street tunnel, and the A & C trains are having a GO with trips back & forth to/from West 4th Street leaving one to make "out-of-system" transfers between the Borough Hall #4 & #5 station and the Jay Street station.

There ARE plenty of us who realized just how close the Lawrence Street and Jay Street stations are/were.

Mike

Light rain I find is actually ideal for walking, especially longer distances as long as its not cold.

Heavier rain, however, is a MUCH different story.
