Unless WMATA or the builder has invested in a time machine, I don't think these delivery dates are correct:Car Tentative. Even that discrepancy doesn't seem correct either. Don't know the exact dates, but I do know that 7004 - 4007 arrived on the property sometime before 7000 - 7003. 7004 - 7007 Greenbelt Yard 04 11 2014, The car on track 6 is 7062. John in the sand box of Maryland's eastern shore. |

At what point can they start scrapping the 1K's ?After roughly 25% of the 300 car option has been put into service. As it stands now WMATA has committed to procuring 428 cars:
Funding for the remaing 320 has not been committed:
In my opinion I believe WMATA should procure another 500 cars to allow 150 second headways (30 TPH). At present WMATA is running a mix of 6 and 8 car trains at roughly 180 second headways (20 TPH). The train control and signaling system on all but the Silver line is designed to support 90 second headways (40 TPH), the train control and signaling system on the Silver line is designed to support 185 second headways (19 TPH). Why are they planning to replace the 4Ks?The suits in the Jackson Graham Building came to the conclusion that it would be cheaper to replace them then rehabilitate as well as upgrade their crashworthness. The 4k cars are structurally similar to the 1k cars. John in the sand box of Maryland's eastern shore. |
