CTA Orange Line no longer planned to get 5000 series cars?

It looks like some 2600-series cars have made their way to the Orange Line as a replacement for its 2400-series cars. I know this replacement was supposed to be an interim replacement until the Red Line and Purple Line are fully equipped with the new 5000-series cars, which then the rest of the cars from the 5000-series order will be assigned to the Orange Line to replace the 2600s, leaving the Blue Line as the only line to operate 2600-series cars and only one of two lines (the other being the Brown Line) not to operate 5000-series cars. However, I have been hearing some rumors that the Orange Line is no longer planned to receive any 5000-series cars, so it looks like the 2600-series being assigned to the Orange Line may actually be a permanent assignment until the 7000-series are delivered.

I wonder, if the Orange Line is no longer planned to receive 5000-series cars, what will the extra cars on order be used for? That seems like it would be a lot of spares just to cover the Red Line, Purple Line, Yellow Line, Green Line, and Pink Line, and would definitely be more than enough cars to at least replace the Orange Line's 2600-series cars.

Not yet. The few that remain are on the Orange Line and are being replaced by reassignments of 2600-series cars from other lines. These reassignments were supposed to be an interim replacement, however, with the rumors that the Orange Line is no longer planned to get the new 5000-series, those 2600-series may endure on the Orange Line until the 7000-series cars are delivered.

I'm surprised that nobody declared the Yellow Line "racist" like they did in Atlanta, where it became the Gold Line. Is it because only the Red Line serves Chinatown?

In Chicago, the third busiest line is actually the Brown Line, followed by the Green Line, then the Orange Line, then the Purple Line, then the Pink Line, and finally the Yellow Line.

Please get that billion dollar junk off the red line. Bring back the 2600s, or give us the 3200s.

CTA set out to advertise the 500th car of the 714 car production. Five hundred cars is a good example of a series that is working....car seating excepted . Do you have any formal complaints from RTO union about the 5000s? Not your personnal stories. CTA Photo.

If this is true in the long run, a bit of luck for Southwest Siders. Sorry, but longitudinal seating in Chicago is an abomination before the Lord and George Krambles, a fact which CTA has tacitly acknowledged by going back to a much higher mix of transverse seating in the planned 7000 series.

Ah, well, they're only stuck with the 5000s for the next 40 years or so. Why, I'll only be around 108 when the last of the 5000s is retired, amidst street dancing and public thanksgiving.

When we compare our beloved Chicago L to other US subways, the cars are smaller than most. While ideally w/ shorter headways and 10 car trains (as planned for in the Red/Purple rehab IINM ) hourly throughput could be increased, that will not be implemented for perhaps a decade. Meanwhile the more efficient packing of sardines might get ridershome/towork faster than waiting for a less filled train. do I like longitudinal seats? Actually, I choose them as they are closest to the doors on BART and get me out the door gfaster. (ex South Shore resident)

IMO, the 5000s seating pattern would be useful on the Blue Line where seems like folks with luggage either take up an extra seat or block the aisles with bags. But doesn't look like 5000s will end up on the Blue anytime in the foreseeable future.

Me personally, those were the easiest trains I ever operated. As a rider, I can't stand them. The seating configurations suck, at least provide each car with a couple of mother in law seats. (Single seats) And FYI, my unions name is Amalgamated Transit Union 308. Not rto union. My union has enough on it's plate with all these members we have getting unjustifiably fired, and the lack of respect they are getting from Cesspool, and that self hating Jew mayor we have.
