NYPD baggage checkers on the Brighton THIS EVENING. |
|
Posted by Newkirk Plaza David on Sat Aug 13 21:38:13 2005 As the fine NYPD warned us that the random bag searches will be conducted at random, as on this post, they are out on a Brighton Line station. In the interest of security, I will not reveal the actual station until later since they are now doing this. |

The checkpoint was at Kings Highway and yours truly cooperated in my very first stop. I asked them why there is NO ONE ON THE NORTH SIDE OF KH HEET ENTRANCE, their reply was they NEVER KNEW IT WAS OPEN 24/7. So a terrorist can sneak on north fare control |

A terrorist could sneak into any station that doesn't have a check and go to the station he wants to blow up. Wow...so easy! |

Even though we may oppose the bag checks, I'm not so sure it is a good idea to post where they are while they are in progress.During the DC area sniper shootings, Metro Networks, which is the organization that provides traffic reporters to most DC radio stations, was fairly well aware of the location of the dragnets following each shooting. Yet, when the shootings occurred at the start of morning rush hour, WTOP's AM drivetime reporter Lisa Baden would simply say "there are police dragnets in the area of ____________, but I can't be more specific than that so that I don't hinder the police effort," or something to that extent. She does the same for presidential motorcades and the like. |

There really is no security that would be hindered. If someone had a bomb, they could refuse a search. The police can't do anything if one refuses a search. All they can do is tell them they cannot enter. |

I don't feel like going into hypothetical situations. I am not in favor of bag checks but I understand the rationale in someone feeling it is wrong to disclose where they are taking place. |

If you don't submit to being searched, it does raise suspicions. At the same time, you supposedly have a right to refusal.Unfortunately, a recent USA Today Poll showed that most Americans were IN FAVOR of the type of searches now going on in the NYC Subway! |

I've been held up by motorcades a number of times. I used to go by the vice presidential residence on a regular basis and more than once, was held up by Al Gore while he left the Observatory.Clearly, the traffic reporters aren't going to want to say why there is traffic if Bush is in the vicinity. I quote Lisa Baden again. Back in June, she said "There is heavy traffic in the vicinity of Montgomery Blair High School. I can't tell you the specifics but if you are there, you will figure out why." Here in DC that information is likely to be withheld. If Bush is making an appearance in some small town somewhere though, I can't imagine his route being that secret. |

I remember AFTER Kennedy's assassination, LBJ was in a motorcade with Bobby Kennedy on Church Avenue. I also remember JFK in front of the RKO Kenmore (though I didn't see him). This was all announced in advance. After MLK and RFK got it, they tightened up even more. Now even the Pope rides behind bulletproof shields. I wouldn't be too lax in a small town. You never know. Even if noone in the immediate area is murderous, we still have open travel. |

A policeman is as entitled as anyone else to observe someone's BEHAVIOR and make a judgment of whether it is appropriate to that of a person who may hiding something.Still, they can't search your bag based on whether or how you refuse a voluntary search. That's the law. As to the ACLU, I was a card-carrying member until Skokie. Now I wish they would remember that their name includes the words "American" and "Civil Liberties." Remember, ACLU will represent anything that goes against any type of civil liberty, no matter how racist, horrible, etc. it is. |

Most Americans are in favor of searches ? Most Americans are sheep. Maybe it's human nature for people to act like sheep. Remember the Reichstag fire and the enabling laws that gave Hitler absolute power ? The parallels are striking. The lesson is that the more power government gets the more they want. They are putting into place a fascist state all around us and if we don't wake up it will be too late. |
