Hudson Line Service will remain suspended until further notice due to a freight train derailment in the vicinity of Spuyten Duyvil station. Ten cars of a 24-car CSX freight/garbage train heading north derailed at 8:40 p.m. Thursday night.between the Spuyten Duyvil and Marble Hill stations.For Friday AM Peak Service, customers are strongly recommended to make alternate service plans. Customers are urged to use the Harlem Line for points of travel north and south. Hudson Line tickets will be honored on the Harlem Line and Metro-North Hudson Line parking permits will be honored at Harlem Line parking facilities operated by LAZ. For southbound service, reduced train service will operate between Poughkeepsie and Yonkers stations only and connect with shuttle bus service to Van Cortlandt Park—242 Street for southbound No. 1 Subway service. For northbound service between Yonkers and Poughkeepsie stations only, customers should take the No. 7 Shuttle from Grand Central to Times Square for No. 1 Subway Service to Van Cortlandt Park—242 Street. Bus service will operate to Yonkers Station and connect with reduced train service to Poughkeepsie. Free subway transfers will be provided. A special schedule to/from Yonkers and Poughkeepsie stations will be posted on this website early Friday morning. It looks very bad to me, especially if track/third rail is torn up. It would to be replaced. But how do you re-rail a car if there is no track to put it on? Or if the truck came off the car?Let's discuss this logically. With the sun beating down beating down on those rails all day they had to be super hot. Didn't the derailment happen around sunset so the rails didn't have a chance to cool down yet? Doesn't that freight train, with all those heavy garbage cars, weigh a hell of a lot more than a passenger train? Doesn't that sheer weight put more stress on the tracks/roadbed? |

And I'm guessing either a heat kink (really a cooling kink) or a truck/bearing/wheel issue or failure, it's all conjecture at this point. My question had to do with blaming CSX. I know full well their history but how would they be at fault here unless they operated the train improperly or missed something on a train inspection or air brake test. |
