If you did that in N gauge, it would be noticeable, but easy to get right.Why don't the cab ends of MU's get them ? I think it is a safety hazard. The Montreal EMU's, which was a physical baseline of the M-7, got them. Sort of like the varying heights of the ditchlights on the NJT Arrow-3's: it was a function of whoever did it if they got a 6 foot ladder or a 10 foot ladder. |

Nah, I think the EMUs look good upfront and as I understand it, are pretty well off in crashworthiness. Even the M-1/1A/2/3/3A/4/6 classes had good frontal crashworthiness. The M-3As that hit the auto carrier truck at Green Lane in Bedford Hills several years ago frontally held up very well. The sides and underbody were more worse for wear than the front ever was, other than a shattered window. But the damage was extensive, but NO ONE was killed, and even injuries were minimal all things considered. |

To date, at no time have I ever heard of someone falling between cars on one of our trains here on MNR. I have seen most people are smart (yes I said it, SMART) and wait until the train stops to cross between the cars at the A-ends, a practice I heavily recommend. |

I've crossed between A-ends while moving all the time, in fact a conductor once told me to do so in the ENY tunnel, which was a bit scary.You just have to be conscious of the territory and avoid upcoming sharp curves, switches (diverging or through), and portals. |

Thanks to that stupid design 'feature', one can quite literally hear them in the station a mile away, but when running they're quieter. totally the opposite of the old GP-38s or MP-15s. Of course, when handed to a competent designer, you get something like the PL-42 which is quiet at rest and quiet pulling the train out of the station. Makes the train a much better neighbor. |

The panned shot, as it is called, comes from focusing on the moving object (I use AF, auto-focus) to get a clear image of the moving object in the foreground, while making the background look blurred (mainly used to emphasize speed and movement). You lightly tap the shutter button to get the focus points to highlight on the object, and to keep the focus on the object and move along with the object, and at the right moment fire the shot.I always use auto-focus and auto mode (aka dummy mode), although as far as lighting and picture quality, I have begun playing around with manual settings, such as ISO adjustments, aperture and shutter speed. |
