I have a suspicion something was borked in the server, since when I have gotten through, it always showed my "last visit" as having been during a failed attempt. Then up and down every 5 minutes constantly for 3 weeks I dumped them and their phone service out of my house, got cable and had to buy a Cisco Router. For 2 computers I didn't at first understand that IPL addresses matter, but did not with DSL via a Ethernet splitter). For a week, all I got was India and never a call back. Then I threatened them with small claims court, so a domestic techie called me. But they are simply incapable of diagnosing an outage from their end. It is most likely a rotted out switch between the house and the switching station. No matter. They won't diagnose, and have no interest in maintaining an aging copper network. I predict Verizon will be nothing but Wireless and Fios in 5 years, and simply spin off the copper network business to a new generation of Baby Bells like Fair Point. |

I got rid of Verizoff two years ago in favor of Comcast's phone service. Verizoff was charging close to $40.00/month for phone service (no long distance) Comcast added $12.00/month for local and long distance telephone service, plus I made Verizoff remove their drop cable from my house, plus Comcast cut the line where it came into my house. I'm glad I live in Baltimore City, Verizoff can't wire for FIos since the cable company (since 1984) has a "One and Only" contract. My street is 3/4 city and 1/4 Baltimore County, Verizoff cut off the FIos 4 feet from the City Line when they wired the County. |

Don't tell turtle though. :)Last hops of the normal traceroute to here are as follows: ---- 13 0.ae2.NY5030-BB-RTR2.verizon-gni.NET (152.63.18.74) 26.355 ms 0.xe-1-1-1.NY325-BB-RTR2.verizon-gni.net (152.63.1.206) 23.541 ms 25.147 ms 14 * * * 15 static-74-102-27-12.nwrknj.fios.verizon.net (74.102.27.12) 37.300 ms 34.746 ms 37.734 ms ---- When the "nwrknj.fios.verizon.net" portion (15 above) appears, then it means that the connection is getting is getting all the way to Uncle Larry's modem. So either there's cabling problems or the machine is DOWN. However, more often than not during the downtime, the LAST hop that worked was "NY325-BB-RTR2.verizon-gni.net" and that router is in New York CITY. When that's the last hop that responds, and nothing out of Newark at all, then it's VERIZON that's down. Stuff it, turtle, show us YOUR research. Oh yeah, all mouth, no research. |
