Posted by Train Man Paul : Metro-North's Best Conductor FOR ALL 3 LINES!!! on Sat May 12 23:28:35 2012 From National Train Day GCT, 05/12/2012, An Acela trainset not only made it into GCT without any problems (seen here displayed proudly on Track 37), it also made it out without any problems (Fred G awesomely caught it at Woodlawn/CP 112). So much for some who thought it would not make it into GCT (WILL REMAIN NAMELESS!!). And for someone else who seemed to really want to see it here, you asked for it, YOU GOT IT!!! (Mr. Olog-Hai!!)  And a couple bonus pics!! Time for her up-close!!  Face-off!! Metro-North Vs. Amtrak!!!  The photographer suffered from MASSIVE tunnel vision, while at the same time had images of Acelas in his mind when he shot this!!!  And the beautiful Rosario Dawson (aka Trainmaster Connie Hooper of the Allegheny & West Virginia Railroad!! ;-)), who so enthusiastically and very affectionately called our kind, "Trainiacs", speaks good of this beautiful day and what it represents in the Vanderbuilt Hall!!  Happy Train Day 2012, folks!! :-) Thank you for viewing!! Hope you have enjoyed!! I do have LOTS more to come!! Stay tuned!! :-) |

Those were among some of my first views of the inside of GCT. Pity they didn't perform according to their looks. One time I was taken in by a rumor that the Turboliners once hit over 150 mph in tests . . . now if anyone can confirm that rumor, I'd like to see it. (The old Metroliner MU was indeed advertised to eventually run at 160 mph, BTW.) |

Moving any turbo liner would require a full airbrake refit, as they are long outlawed on inspections and air valve overhauls.at conciderable finacial and logistic nightmares. as far as nameless person, Paul you again fail reading comprehention. I said that as of wednesday they did not secure clearance yet from those that make those decisiions and who check those clearances. and that for anyone to move such a set they need either of 3 things, those clearances were finaly approved thurdsday morning. |

My wife was shocked so many people came, but I told her, there's nothing like the allure of trains and rail travel!! :-) But your timing paid off, you caught something I missed by just minutes at 125th Street, as I still had a railfan bug biting me and continued to go shooting!! There was quite a railfan turnout at 125th as well!! And I am not sure of you heard, the Anniversary Train got into a little snafu leaving GCT, and had it not, I would have caught it nice at 125th in daylight!! |

The Metroliner MUs hit 160.4 IIRC on the racetrack south (RR west) of Elizabeth on a quiet weekend test run. On the first SB revenue trip several times 124 by the digital speedometer in the rear cab. IINM the best the Acela hit was less than 10 mph faster in test although better in regular revenue than the MUs. Too bad. |

Thank you!! :-) Seeing the Acela there was indeed a sight!! The other equipment I have seen in GCT before, most recently in 2008 when Empire Service plus the Lake Shore Limited for 2 weekends ran out of GCT due to work on the DV (Spuyten Duyvil/Harlem River) Drawbridge, but the Acela, that was something to see!! |
