I didn't know if there are more.I'd keep it elevated to allow freight service to remain as is. Only drop it down as it approached the Rockaway Branch, and join the existing Montauk Branch until Jamaica, then elevated again. |

Actually, that would probably work, as the only grade crossings on the Lower Montauk Branch are west of the Rockaway Branch (80th St and 88th St), I don't remember any east of there (IIRC). |

The Montauk Branches only grade crossings are 80th St, 88th St, the private cemetery one which is no big deal at the old Glendale station site, and that's it between Bushwick Junction. East of the Rockaway Branch there's no grade crossings at all. Of course, the Rockaway Branch itself was also completely grade eliminated in the 1930's. |

That's another very interesting route idea. Even if it weren't done as an L train branch, I'd definitely suggest extending the E/J out to Belmont for a park and ride. Some will argue about how it's outside the city but that mess has got to stop already. There are a couple of area outside of NYC limits that deserve a subway extension (Yonkers is another good example) |

I agree that they never would (the last one IINM was on the L in Canarsie), I'm just making the point that there's really no difference in what blocks the crossing. |

Your posts made me check about how the grade separations projects were going in Tokyo and made me check them for hours, only to find out how so many grade crossings are still there in its commercial and business districts. Of course, none of them are new, but still... |

They will NEVER build a heavy rail rapid transit line as a new line with grade crossings. I don't know why people keep harping on this, it's not going to happen. Not even the slightest chance. |

Could you point out any regulations or laws against them?In the other countries that I've lived, it's maximum speed allowed. For example, in Japan its 130kph(80mph) + braking to full stop within 600 meters, in the UK, it's 160kph(100mph). I should also mention that outside of the US, the regs are usually the same for light rail, rapid transit and commuter/long distance rail. |

Again, if you actually think they would build a subway style line in an urban area like that with grade crossings and third rail, you live in railfan fantasy world. |

You didn't answer my question.Of course they avoid it when possible for new builds in those two countries as well. Shit, was my question so hard? Could you point out any regulations or laws against them? |

I never said there was a law against it, I DID say many times that there isn't a CHANCE in hell that it would happen in a location like that, in this day and age. I also said it was COMPLETE railfan fantasy to even remotely think it could happen. "Shit, what is so hard to understand about that"...to take your quote. |

To be fair, I agree with you that they will never build a subway style heavy rail line on the Bushwick ROW. However, let's be honest: it's a railfan fantasy to build light rail on it too. That's kind of the point of many posts of this board: they are services that will never be built, but are nice to dream about. |
