One thing that I especially loved about the Slants (this was not true of the Mods) was the look of delight on a small child's face as they got a full view of the tracks and tunnels. This actually happened on my last ride on June 12th, 2009 as a mother and her young (maybe age five) daughter got on at 125th Street. Seeing this, I immediately ceded the window and the little girl became thoroughly engrossed. They stayed on until 168th Street. This may very well have been the last time a young child ever enjoyed such a treat.I will miss these cars, but I am glad I got to say goodbye the way I did. My favorite line for them was the Brighton Line, especially the outdoor portions, and the Manhattan Bridge. Also the "Dash" between 34th-6th Avenue and West 4th Street, where a record time of 1:48 was once recorded with #4415 the South Motor. Another favorite was the Canarsie Line in the late 90's and early 00's. wayne |
