edf40wrjww2msgDetail:detailStr fiogf49gjkf0d At 14:58, I catch the R160 set on the E at Jamaica-Van Wyck, heading towards Jamaica Center. I get on and ride to Jamaica Center, where there's already a crowd waiting for the next departure. The train arrives at 15:01. It's the only train at the platform. The dispatcher announces that the train will skip Jamaica-Van Wyck. The doors close. After about 5 minutes of sitting there, the train doors re-open and then close again. The train finally leaves at 15:07.

Crowding was an issue during the whole trip. The train was SRO from Continental all the way to 34th Street. We had to crawl outside Continental because a garbage train was on the local track at Continental, and they had to run a local train around it. We had crowding delays at Continental, Roosevelt, Queens Plaza, Lexington/53rd, 50th, 42nd, and 34th. The delays got so bad, that our follower caught up with us. Quite literally, in fact. As the train was approaching Canal Street, this was approaching the station on the express track.

That's right. Another E train. We left first.
As you see, by the time I was able to take this picture at World Trade Center, we already had the start lights, we departed while the follower was arriving.

Apparently, the homeless are "enjoying" the new cars, too.

Monday, 16:14. What's wrong with this picture?

They weren't without their quirks. For instance, when the "Do Not Hold the Doors" announcement was activated, the interior signs would play the message, but the most I heard from the speakers was, "Ladies and gentlemen--." Write it up on the defect card, Mr. Conductor!
On the way back, crowding was tolerable until 42nd Street. Lexington/53rd is quite the mad house! I got off at 23rd-Ely.
A parting shot
