The name "seatless train" is a bit misleading. It is a test of a practice that has been used in other systems. The seats in the subject cars will be made so they can be folded up and locked in position. As I understand it, during rush hours only, the seats will be locked so all customers in that car will be standees, presumably increasing capacity and reducing crowding and commute times. It should neither be catagorized as a great idea nor a bad idea as it has not been tested. Let's see how it works before we make those evaluations. |
