Hi Frantic, just a wee bit of Queens history. Slattery Plaza is the old name of the station area. Four major thoroughfares met at this area - Eliot Avenue and Horace Harding, Woodhaven and Queens Boulevards. When the LIE was constructed along the HH corridor, Slattery Plaza effectively was destroyed. In 1972, Queens Center Mall first opened and IIRC there hasn`t been direct indoor access to QCM from the full length mezzanine - the entrance on the north side of QB and 59th Avenue being the closest. In 1972, one came to QCM via the (EE) or the (GG). :)
