As I have said before:Do the necessary work to allow Canal Street on the (J) to be a terminal again (including re-activating the abandoned northbound tracks at Canal and Bowery) with as follows: (R) at all times between 95th and Canal Street, usually terminating on what currently is the northbound track (former southbound terminal track), something that was not possible before the work that was done that allowed the northbound side to be abandoned, Late nights and weekends, this (R) is extended to Metropolitan Avenue, absorbing the current night and weekend (M) shuttles. This (R) would be based out of East New York and would have in-service yard runs from and to Broadway Junction on the (J) in addition. (J) (and when running, Z) terminates at Chambers save for a handful of rush hour runs that end and begin at Broad Street. This would be set up so the southbound transfer would be at Canal Street and the northbound transfer would be at Chambers Street between the (J) and (R). (W) becomes full-time between 9th Avenue or Bay Parkway on the (D) and Astoria except late nights. This would solve a lot of problems on the (R) because that would be shortened considerably. |
