When Terminated at Metro-North, you forfeit your pension

That is totally false. A vested pension cannot be terminated except maybe for the commission of a work-related crime.

The worst that can happen is that you lose the special early retirement benefits that you would have been entitled to if you'd stuck it out to age 55 or some similar age. But that doesn't distinguish between quitting and being fired.

I agree that maybe they told him that he would be fired if he didn't quit.
