Here's an example. Is this what you're asking?Suppose some that hasn't used the subway in weeks takes the following number of trips over a 14 day period. They'd end up paying for 12 rides each week with no free rides the first week and 4 free rides the second week. Are you asking why the system doesn't optimize to get the lowest fare by charging full fare for the 2 rides the first Monday and then charging for the first 12 rides starting Friday? If that were done in this scenario, then that rider would only pay for 14 rides instead of paying for 24 rides. I think that the issue is that they wouldn't know what to charge for rides until after 7 days had passed. That would be very confusing for everyone. Mon - 2 trips Tue - no trips Wed- no trips Thu - no trips Fri - 4 trips Sat - 4 trips Sun - 2 trips Mon - 4 trips Tue - 4 trips Wed - 4 trips Thu - 4 trips Fri - no trips Sat - no trips Sun - no trips |
