One of Prince Andrew's good qualities is that he could bowl over the obstructions of NIMBYs, as in New Hyde Park with the 3rd track. The AirTrain to Shea is bringing people to a time-wasting connection. I attended one of the early meetings regarding sending the subway to LaGuardia. The meeting was held in an auditorium in the Museum of the Moving Image. No matter which route was proposed,a crowd of NIMBYs and their politicians blocked it. I came away favoring a route close to the Hell Gate bridge line (more noise near Woodside houses), then following the BQE to the terminals, forking east of St. Marys cemetery. |
