Re: Question About Pre-1950 Rockaway Beach/Far Rockaway LIRR Service

Posted by Joe V on Fri Feb 19 06:49:40 2021, in response to Re: Question About Pre-1950 Rockaway Beach/Far Rockaway LIRR Service, posted by Osmosis Jones on Fri Feb 19 02:23:17 2021.

Until 1998, they ran 3 trains per hour to Brooklyn weekday, 2 weekends, with Far Rockawys being absent.

Huntington trains got half hour weekend service when the weekend Babylon thru-expresses ended about 15 years ago. Now they skip stop New Hyde Park/Merilllon Avenue and Carle Place/Westbury, with Ronkonkoma non stop Jamaica- Hicksville. It also means alternate Port Jeff shuttles need not go to Hicksville for its 90 minute service, which they do on weekdays.

The weekend skip-stop pattern is wrong. Westbury is a much busier station than Cold Spring Harbor. There have been complaints about that, but LIRR's arrogant service planners do not budge, saying additional Westbury service must wait for half hour service to Ronkonokma with double track, which turned out to be another lie of theirs.

I think weekday Huntington service is awful, and half the Port Jeff shuttles have to endure connections these local milk trains.

Penn Station slots are not an issue off-peak.
